BFFS Scotland is the Scottish regional group of the British Federation of Film Societies. Run entirely by volunteers BFFS Scotland works with and supports societies across the country and has a key advocacy role representing over 40 film societies spread across Scotland. Funding comes from Scottish Screen and BFFS member subscriptions.

BFFS Scotland’s member societies include: Strathendrick Film Society who run a scheme allowing young people to make films which are then screened to the areas elderly population to encourage dialogue between age groups; Edinburgh University Film Society, winners of the BFFS Best Student Society of the Year 2006; Linlithgow Film Society who hold a legendary annual wine and cheese night and have been in continuous operation since 1951.

BFFS Scotland, working with Edinburgh-based film-maker Ian Rintoul, recently completed a short film on how to set up a new film society entitled “Cinema For All”. Copies are available on DVD to anyone thinking of starting their own film society in Scotland and are in the process of being rolled out to the rest of the UK. Copies are available for members of the press on request.
