Strathendrick Film Society Programme 2007/2008.
The committee met last week to decide on the films to put into next years programme. Membership will remain the same as last year and flyers should be distibuted at the end of the month. Votes from the members were taken into consideration, and the list is as follows:
September 14 ‘Amazing Grace’ 2006 PG 118 min. Supported by Balfron Church, tells the remarkable story of William Wilberforce, who spent twenty years of his life on a quest to bring an end to the slave trade in Britain. An amazing story that enthralls.                                                                   
September 28 â€˜The Queen’ 2006 Rated PG-13, 103 min. Funny and touching, anchored by a classic turn from a consummate British actress as a Queen who desires to understand her people and do them proud while honoring the traditions of her lineage. WON AN OSCAR.                                                             
October 12 ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ UK 15 101 min. The film packs an emotional     wallop that's going to take a lot of people by surprise and it could be the funniest movie of the year. WON 2 OSCARS+35 OTHER WINS.                                              
November 2 ‘Volver ‘2006 UK 15, 121 min. (Penelope Cruz) Spanish women stick together for each other's sake, they cross unspeakable boundaries for sheer          compassion. Uplifting and has a delicious comedy side too. BEST SCREEN PLAY CANNES FILM FESTIVAL+34 OTHER AWARDS.                                                            
November 23 ‘The Train’ (1964) PG 140 min. In 1944, a German colonel loads a train with French art treasures. The Resistance must stop it without damaging the cargo. FIRST RATE /TRAIN /ART /WAR /FILM, NOT TO BE MISSED. B&W.                                                              
 December 21 matinee 2pm. ‘Spirited Away’ PG, 125 min. In the middle of her family's move to the suburbs, a sullen     10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters. FIRST ANIMATION TO WIN AN OSCAR!!                                                                               
January 11 ‘History Boys’ Rated R for language and sexual content. 109 min. You'll end up being drawn in by each     character, hoping for their successes, and being moved by the relationships in the movie. GLITTER AWARD BEST PICTURE. Writer Alan Bennet .
February 8 ‘Ten Canoes’ 2006, 90 min. is an Aboriginal parable set possibly ten thousand years ago. It has hilarious casual dialog and familiar situations depicting tribal family and community life. WON 14 AWARDS WORLDWIDE.                                                                                   
 February 22 ‘Mountain Patrol’UK:15      Runtime: 90 min. is sponsored in part by   National Geographic, a story that is not only based on fact, but opens our eyes to another way of life in a very remote area. The effect is     stunning. A mountain patrol group track a band of poachers across Kekexili, the last great wilderness. WON 7 AWARDS.                                                                  
February 29 ‘Black Gold’ 78 min. Supported by the Scottish Co-op doesn't shout at you, or make you feel guilty about really liking coffee. Find out how coffee is grown, what life is like in Ethiopia, and see the beauty and lushness of the countryside.   DOCUMENTARY .                                                               
March 21 ‘Lives of Others’ Rated R for some sexuality/nudity 137 min. The movie tells the story of Stasi agent Wiesler, who follows his guidelines with chilling accuracy. His newest assignment is to wiretap famed author Georg Dreyman (Sebastian Koch) and his companion. Listening to their conversations, he gets caught in their lives. A thrilling plot, with superb acting.OSCAR + 38 OTHER AWARDS .                                             
April 4 ‘Offside’ PG 93 min. Country:Iran. This is a non-documentary, an entertaining black comedy with subversive young girls subtly kicking the 'system' in its ass. It's all about football and some say its funny, its really funny. JURY GRAND PRIZE BERLIN 2006.                                                                              
 April 25 ‘Bread and Tulips’2000 Rated PG-13, 114 min. A delightfully funny picture with moments of tenderness and pathos, a quintessentially Italian approach to the bored housewife story. It's also a wonderful view of Venice from an Italian perspective.                  WON 19 AWARDS WORLDWIDE.

·Evening shows start at 7.30pm. and usually doors close at 10pm. 
·Neither food nor drink may be taken into the theatre.     
The committee reserves the right to alter the programme.
In the unlikely event that all seats are filled on any given night, we reserve the right to put on a second showing on another night to meet demand.
Neither food nor drink may be taken into the theatre, but all members are invited to use the atrium to enjoy refreshments and get together after the film for a blether.
We will serve Fair Trade goods whenever possible.

This Award winning Film Society
is in its fourth year and gives you the chance to see blockbuster movies as well as entertaining and unusual films from all over the world in Balfron Campus theatre.
The society is run by a group of enthusiasts in a welcoming and appreciative atmosphere and membership is open to everyone aged 16 and over. (Family membership allows younger children in with parents).
The Society is a member of the British Federation of Film Societies.
 
Members may bring a maximum of two guests to each film at a cost of £4 each.                            
Those with family membership may purchase up four guest tickets per screening.

Our children’s Christmas Matinee is open to the public free of charge.
Amazing Grace September 14 is supported by Balfron Church of Scotland and is open to the public free of charge.
Black Gold February 29 is supported by the Co-op and is open to the public free of charge.
